Will Led Zeppelin Tour in 2008?

It finally happened! December, 2007 was the long awaited Led Zeppelin reunion show. Now the big question is will a world tour follow? Rumor has it that currently lead singer Robert Plant has some commitments with Alison Kraus. However, word on the street is that as soon as the project with Kraus is over he has finally agreed to join with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham. This is what the world has been waiting for!

The band had an 11 year reign that dominated the rock scene and laid down a foundation for 100’s of bands to follow. The versatility of the band took them in many different directions musically. Not having released a studio album since late 1979, Led Zeppelin is still the most popular rock band of all time. Consisting of lead singer Robert Plant, Legendary guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/composer/arranger John Paul Jones and the incredible John Bonham on drums, they were pretty much an unstoppable musical force throughout the 1970s, releasing historic album after album with hits like “Dazed and confused,” “good times bad times”, “Ramble On”, Black dog”, “Rock n roll”, “Kashmir” and of course the almighty anthem for almost 4 generations ...“Stairway to Heaven,” still known today as one of the best single songs ever recorded.

Since the tragic death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, the members of Led Zeppelin have only appeared together on several brief occasions. In 1985 they did a set at the live aid concert. The performance was not anything up to the level of par that critics and fans have come to expect from Led Zeppelin. They were not very well rehearsed and the 2 drummers used during the sets were not prepared either. During the first chorus of the opening song an important drum break was missed causing a noticeable and embarrassing mistake. Jimmy Page was quoted of saying that it was at that moment that he realized the entire chemistry of the band was completely disrupted without the presence of John Bonham. Robert Plant stated that he will never perform as Led Zeppelin again, and that without John Bonham there is no Led Zeppelin. It was a few years later that they did another brief performance at the 40th anniversary of Atlantic records. Once again, the chemistry of the band was missing and yet another poor performance resulted. Page and Plant again later performed together in a memorable appearance on “MTV Unplugged” in 1994, and eventually did a tour entitled “No Quarter” using a full orchestra and composed different arrangements of old zeppelin tunes which added a new twist on the creativity of Led Zeppelin’s Page/Plant. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2007 the band released two compilation albums, and performed a magical performance at London’s 02 Arena in December 2007. It seems very likely that things are falling into place for a 2008 Led Zeppelin concert tour. Son of the late John Bonham, Jason, is most likely to be joining the band on drums, as he did for the show in December 2007.

Once again, Led Zeppelin fans will have to wait! They will patiently wait until the “rumors” of a 2008 tour are confirmed! They have waited 27 years, but hopefully within the next few months they will get to hear that a tour will be announced. Then the pandemonium will begin!
