Rare Video of Led Zeppelin performing The Rain Song, MTV’s Unplugged:

The word Unplugged refers to rock musicians performing live using primarily acoustic instruments in contrast to the usual electric amplified instruments such as the electric guitar & bass. Unplugged became a popular MTV series that began in the 1989/1990 US TV season, MTV Unplugged, on which musicians performed acoustic or "unplugged" versions of their familiar repertoire. Many of these performances were subsequently released as albums, often featuring the title Unplugged. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page released their “unplugged” album entitled “No Quarter”, which consisted of classic Led Zeppelin songs done acoustically and backed by a string orchestra; and some with new twists on the arrangements. Unfortunately, this incredible rendition of “The Rain Song” never made it to their No Quarter.

Lyrics to The Rain Song:

It is the springtime of my loving
the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing-
so little warmth I felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles
flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes
it is to you I give this tune.

It isn't hard to recognize
these things are clear to all from
time to time.

I felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us
but I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion
And like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient
Upon us all a little rain must fall.
